Desk Report: Bangladeshi journalist Md. Al Masum Khan has been appointed as the Organizing Secretary of the Central Committee of the News Portal Journalists Association (NPJA)—a globally recognized umbrella organization for online journalists.
With this appointment, he becomes the only journalist from Bangladesh to be included in the central leadership of this international body—an honor that stands as a proud achievement for the country’s journalistic community.
Notably, on May 4, 2025, the government of the U.S. state of Connecticut officially recognized the NPJA, thereby establishing it as a legitimate and internationally acknowledged organization for professional online journalism.
The NPJA was originally founded on May 3, 2010—World Press Freedom Day—by a group of passionate expatriate journalists in the United States. Since its inception, the organization has aimed to unite online journalists worldwide, ensure the protection of their rights, promote professional training, and elevate standards in digital journalism in alignment with global policies and ethics.
Reacting to his new appointment, Md. Al Masum Khan stated:
> "I am honored and inspired to take on this international responsibility. It is a unique opportunity to represent Bangladeshi journalists on a global platform. I remain deeply committed to advocating for the rights, security, and dignity of journalists everywhere. I express my sincere gratitude to the honorable President of the organization for entrusting me with this important role."
Md. Al Masum Khan has long been active in journalism, human rights advocacy, and research. His elevation to this international position is being seen as a positive milestone and a source of pride for the journalist community in Bangladesh.
